NutritionThe Child & Adult Care Food Program supplements the cost of meals and snacks to caregivers for children enrolled in registered or licensed day care homes. More than 650,000 meals were supplemented last year. The Summer Food Service for Children delivered over 312,000 meals to participants.
CommoditiesGovernment surplus foods are distributed on a quarterly basis to low-income, no-income or disabled individuals to help increase their food supply and provide nutritious meals. Child and Adult Care FoodThe Child and Adult Care Food Program supplements the cost of meals and snacks to caregivers for children enrolled in Licensed Day Care or alternate approved facilities. Summer FoodThe Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was established to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Free meals, that meet Federal Nutrition guidelines, are provided to all children at approved SFSP sites. The SFSP operates during school vacations, primarily in the summer months from May to August. This is a federally funded U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service and State sponsored through the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
